peare Memorial Theatre (which burnt down in 1926)

The first show in 1879 was Much Ado About Nothing

As of 1995 the RSC was staging 30 different shows a year

Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Swan Theatre & The Other Place

Home of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

The original theatre on the site was called the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, built in 1879 it burnt down in 1926. Performances continued in a cinema while a second Shakespeare Memorial Theatre was then built next door and opened on 23rd April 1932.
In 1961 it was re-named the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and has since been joined by the Swan Theatre, a smaller theatre on same site, which opened in 1986.
The RSC also runs The Other Place, a studio theatre located just down the road from the main site, opened in 1974, rebuilt 1991.

Some show dates overlap due to them being performed in repertoire.
